2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Shift Comes After Mixed Response

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified team members about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the need for a distinct direction.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to address player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

The news echoes a comparable action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire message from the president's memo:

Team—

I understand you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a more distinct identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to consideration and revamped the title with a renewed direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its promise to our players.

Our confidence in this project grows every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the latest Lead of the team. After several months of conversations, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

His management and expertise in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having devoted the recent years producing and leading some of the most well-known titles in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

Please join me in welcoming him next week. We are all excited to keep observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.

The President
